In 2008, I discovered e-books. To understand this new medium, I downloaded my first digital book and immediately recognized its potential. I realized authors could use this technology to reach readers directly, bypassing traditional barriers.

What opened my eyes was seeing how writers in certain countries struggle against political restrictions. At best, their works face censorship – at worst, complete suppression by authorities. Often, entire print runs are destroyed to prevent distribution. Authors are forced to seek foreign publishers, an impossible challenge for those without international connections.

Even Western-based authors face distribution challenges when shipping physical books across borders.

My solution? E-books eliminate these barriers:
• No physical transportation needed
• Readers in restrictive regimes can download books discreetly
• Content can be read and temporarily deleted from devices, reducing risks during government inspections
• The danger of persecution for reading “forbidden” material drops significantly

This isn’t just convenience – it’s liberation. By digitizing literature, we’re creating lifelines for censored voices and safe access for oppressed readers. Every e-book shared is an act of resistance against intellectual oppression.
